There are a lot of truly silly games that are out there for little toddlers who just want to have fun and pretend. That’s great. As they get older the toys and games get a little more complex and may be considered educational. Certainly anything that teaches them something has value. Not sure how hot playing ‘store’ is these days but it sure was fun to have little things to sell and to work the little cash register. I suppose games like Monopoly are still considered educational as you learn how to transact business, exchange, win and lose money.
Most kids these days are pretty computer literate to say the least and it might be a really good idea to start teaching them how to build a business online. Some strongly feel that doing things hands on is the best way to really learn something that sticks.
This is a real good idea as well to create a ‘game’ that you can do with your child and have a regular time that you meet for these ‘lessons’. If you need to start with how to navigate a computer then start there. Eventually you can start to explore possibilities for setting up and developing a real business that makes real money. Another real good business lesson kids can have is their own bank account to save their allowance and now their business earnings.
Whether or not you want them to save it indefinitely and learn that kind of lesson, or actually start to use it for their own school or entertainment expenses is up to you. Probably a little of each is best because each type of transaction has real value in the business world they will need to participate in when they grow up and face their future.
Unless you have a little technical genius on your hands, something simple like a sales and marketing business is probably the ideal way to teach them some aspects of business. Great idea not to spend a ton of money to realize your kid just wants to play baseball. (You can always keep everything and try again later).
